Simon Francis has been exhibiting for many years and has a stunning reputation for the depth of his work. His paintings are built up in many layers with an incredible use of shade and colour. The work of Simon Francis is about us. His paintings refer to landscape in the broadest sense and are expressed with an abstract visual language. “What we notice and how we view our surroundings is often determined by how we feel. However, our interpretation of what we see also affects our feelings. Our visual world is full of multiplicity and contradictions. Our experience of it is selective and aided, but sometimes confounded, by memory. Although there is a common thread in all our emotions, there is also a strong individuality in all of us.”
