This time the motif of the boat is reworked into a stage. The passengers are actors playing out some kind of classical drama. We are at the theatre and the stage curtain is no longer a sail. It has been raised to reveal the drama being acted out before us.Are the people on the bank the audience? Are they simply voyeurs? Or are they a part of the drama themselves?
Martin Alton has been an artist for over thirty years and his work has been sold to clients in the United Kingdom, South Africa and the United States. Using many different mediums, Martin has developed his personal painting vision.
For his exhibition ‘Surbiton from Alton: new perspectives on Surbiton Station’, Martin has created a series of original oil paintings based on a theme of Surbiton Station. These paintings are both playful and dramatic and offer the viewer new angles and perspectives on this well known, iconic building.
“Surbiton Station was designed in 1937 by James Robb Scott in the Art Deco style. Used regularly by thousands of people for work and play, the station has been often overlooked. Hopefully, not any longer! The exhibition is a celebration of a place we all know and love but rarely look at.”
