The term MIXED UP describes the style of Gavin’s work, the inspiration for his work, the material for his work and ultimately the images he produces.
The human and material landscape is where he draws his inspiration. The environment he lives in and the world he travels through provides a limitless source of references that enthuse, intrigue and excite.
Gavin’s own photography or ‘found’ materials provide him with the origins from which his artwork is created. Gavin is always striving to find ways of adding another visual ‘layer’ to the inherently two-dimensional nature of his source.
The eclectic nature of the editions of work he produces are a reflection of his restless ‘digging’, either visually or literally. As Gavin puts it: ‘Every corner you turn or old box you dig through can send you off on an entirely new adventure’.
