B&B door in Provence

Mike spent his professional career creatively as a successful Chartered Engineer running his own firm of Structural Engineers. After designing buildings and bridges for over forty years he has now turned his hand to painting, working out of his studio in rural Hampshire.
Working primarily with oil and acrylics, he enjoys splashing colour on the canvas and creating pieces that capture a sense of happiness, evoking memories of summer days spent on the beach and rambles through the local countryside.
Mike uses oil paints to create his various portraits and figure work, finding this medium best suited for the subtle blending of skin tones. For seascapes and landscapes he starts with acrylics, adding modelling paste and sand to give depth and texture, before finishing with oils. In recent months Mike has worked more on still life pieces, with a particular focus on value and an accurate representation of colour.
Aside from painting, Mike enjoys travelling, cycling and windsurfing. Inspiration for much of his work stems from these pursuits, and he can constantly be found snapping photographs whilst touring through Southern France, walking in the Slovenian mountains or checking for wind on the North Cornish Coast.
